FTC Hits Facebook with $5 Billion Civil Penalty for Violations
FTC alleged that the social network violated data privacy and lied to its users about the face recognition technology and tagging that were on without many users noticing it. Facebook will have to pay a $5 billion civil penalty and change the way it handles privacy and users’ data. According to FTC, this is a ‘history-making’ and the largest privacy penalty ever.
As a result, Facebook is organizing the Privacy Committee to help monitor and control the platform’s data handling policies. Besides that, several updates and changes have been made so far in order to improve the protection of users’ data.
